OraNasco is a patented system for the detection of calving in cattle which, based on the latest generation sensors and taking advantage of mobile technology, alerts the breeder of the imminent calving by SMS message and calling on the mobile phone.

The system consists of two parts: a transceiver unit, to be installed in the barn area dedicated to the calving and an endovaginal detection probe to be placed in the animal's vagina a few days before the birth of the calf.

When the fetal sack breaks, the probe will be ejected and the alarm wull sound to the breeeder cia SMS and call.

Thanks to this technology, totally Italian and covered by patent, Oranasco is the only system that warns the breeder of the imminent birth, which will take place within the following 40/50 minutes.

The breeeder has all the time then to reach the stable and provide help to the cow in labour and ensure the first neonatal care to the calf in case of need and administering colostrum within the first 6 hours of life.

THE SYSTEM

The birthing detection system  “OraNasco” is able to detect the beginning of the expulsion phase in the bovine species and warn the breeder by SMS and call

HOW IT WORKS

The system consists of two parts: a transceiver unit to be installed in the delivery area of the barn and an endovaginal detection probe to be placed in the vagina of the animal close to the delivery. When the fetal sack breaks or the fetus is passing through the birth canal, the probe will be ejected and the alarm will sound to the breeder via the control unit.

HOW IT USE IT

Following the instructions provided in the manual, it is possible to program the control unit by storing up to four mobile numbers to be simultaneously alerted in case of imminent birth. The probe, once activated, must be placed in the vaginal canal of the cow close to delivery.

WHEN TO USE IT

The probe is powered by a battery. In order to maximize its lifespan, it is advisable to activate it close to the expected delivery time  (3-5 days), when the cow starts showing the typical premonitory signsi:

  • Preparation and oedema of the breast to lactation

  • Oedema and hyperemia of the vulva

  • Liquefaction of the cervical mucous cap

  • Pelvic ligaments relaxation

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU RECEIVE THE WARNING OF IMMINENT BIRTH

  • Retrieve the probe to avoid trampling on it

  • Free it from any materials (fetal membranes, litter, manure, etc…), clean and disinfect it for later use

  • Monitor the cow in labour to provide prompt delivery assistance, recognize conditions (dystocia) and ensure the first neonatal care for the calf, as well as administer the colostrum within the first 6 hours of life.

benefits

  • Optimisation  of the presence of the personnel in charge of monitoring cows in labour

  • Early recognition of dystocia and/or fetal suffering

  • Rapid resolution of painful  conditions or causes of suffering associated with the birth, both for the cow (prolongation of the expulsion phase, dystocia...) and for the calf ( compression within the birth canal, hypoxia...) according to good veterinary practices

  • Immediate care of the normal or hypovital newborn calf

  • Administration of colostrum within the first 6 hours of life
